Large no of institutions are spread across the length and breadth of the state of Haryana for providing higher education, The functioning of these institutions is ensured by the Directorate of Higher Education, Haryana. The Directorate not only looks after the functioning of institutes providing higher education but also promised to elevate the level of higher education in the state. The directorate has approved for Education City Project in the state during 2005 – 2006 plan. The project has all the facilities to tapping up the potential of EDUSAT- The Education Satellite. A sum of Rs. 5.0 lac has allocated in the annual plan 2005 – 2006 for the project.
To fulfill its commitment and so as to make more students chose for attending university classes the Directorate has institutionalized various scholarship schemes. These schemes are
Haryana State (Meritorious Student) Scholarship Scheme:-This scheme has been brought into effect to encourage students in government colleges. Under this scheme three category of students – male students, female students and SC students are given annual scholarship on the basis of performance in annual university examination in four main categories Arts, Commerce, Science and Education. The scholar ship is given at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. The scheme is college specific and three meritorious students in each stream who have stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd will be given this scholarship. The students who stand 1st in the merit receive Rs. 5000 (per annum), the student who stands 2nd in the merit receives Rs. 3000 (per annum) and the student who stands 3rd in the merit receives Rs. 2000 (per annum).
Merit Scholarship to Undergraduate Girls Student:- This scheme was started in the year 1998-99 with a purpose to persuade girl students to study Science subjects at the degree level. The scholarship is provided only for the first year of the course. The scholarship carries an amount of Rs. 1315/- per student for one year only. A sum of Rs. 18.00 lac has been approved in the plan outlay 2005-2006.
Incentive to Students Belonging to Minority Group – Under this scheme bicycles are provided for the students of minority community (Muslims) @ Rs. 1500/- per student per year. Only those students can avail this facility whose parents annual income is Rs. 50000 or less. The students of Minority Community are also given free stationery @ Rs. 500/- per student per year.
Remedial Coaching For SC/BC and Educationally Backward Minority Group Students – This scheme includes incentives to lecturers teaching English, Math and Science to students belonging to SC/BC and Minority Community for +1 to BA/B.Sc./B.Com. @Rs. 1000/- (Rs. 800/- to per Lecturer as honorarium and Rs. 200/- as incentive to per student) per month.
