The Technical Education Board Haryana was established in 1966 following the bifurcation of Punjab. Minister of Technical Education Haryana government is the Chairman of the board, and Director Technical education is the member secretary. The board comprises of 40 members.
The board has to look after the following academic aspects of Technical Education:
- Accreditation
- Affiliation of the Institutions and courses
- Examination
- Certification
The Board has following functions
Some of the major functions which are required to be undertaken by the Board are:
Academic Functions
- Prescribe curricula
- Prescribe Norms and standards
- Prescribe Entry-level qualification for programmes
- Liaise with other bodies and disseminate information
- Organize workshops and seminars
- Prepare Admission Brochure
Affiliation and Accreditation
- Prepare guidelines for affiliation and accreditation of Institutions and programmes
- Inspect and accredit institutions
- Disaffiliate institutions
- Grant academic autonomy to institutions
- Provide feedback to institutions
- Prescribe fees
- Prevent commercialization of Technical Education
- Liaison with NBA (National Board of Accreditation)
Examination and Certification
- Prescribe rules and guidelines for examination.
- Prescribe guidelines for the paper setters and examiners.
- Prescribe guidelines for internal assessment of students.
- Conduct Examinations.
- Review and Declare results
- Decide cases of use of unfair means in the examinations.
- Conduct Examination Committee meeting from time to time
Conduct of Entrance Test
The State Board of Technical Education Haryana has also conducting Entrance Examination since 1995 – 96 sessions for making centralized admissions to various Diploma Courses in the State. Nearly 30,000 candidates appear in these tests every year.
