The National Institute of Technology (NIT) was established in the year 1962. NIT became a deemed university in the year 2002 and thus acquired its new name i.e. National Institute of Technology. Today it enjoys a Deemed University status under a University Grants Commission (UGG) Act.
National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra or NIT Kurukshetra (earlier known as Regional Engineering College, Kurukshetra) is a public technical university wholly funded by Government of India. It has been accredited with the status of Institution of National Importance(INI).
It is one of the twenty National Institutes of Technology established and administered by Government of India. The institute offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Engineering and Doctor of Philosophy progamme in Engineering, Sciences and Humanities.
The institute is working to provide a number of quality engineering courses and programs at the undergraduate, post graduate and doctoral levels.
Today NIT is one of the well-respected engineering institutes in the country. The institute trains students in the field of academics, research activities, intensive study, and innovative methods of teaching, as a part of the grooming process in this institute.
The campus of NIT, Kurukshetra is stretched over an area of 300 acres. The campus has Hostels for the students, Instructional buildings and Residential sector for the staff. A health centre manned by qualified doctors, a Post Office and a branch of the State Bank of India. For organizing cultural activities there's an Open Air Theater and an auditorium - Jubilee Hall.

NIT Kurukshetra Placement CellThe Training & Placement Cell of NIT Kurukshetra, handles training and campus placements for the students. The Training & Placement Cell is well equipped with the best infrastructure to facilitate proper placement process. The placement office handles all Pre-Placements talks, written tests, interviews, group discussions, etc.
The Placement policies and other related activities are handled by the Placement Advisory Committee(PAC) of final year students from different branches under the guidance of Professor in-Charge, Training and Placement.
